Kawerau COVID-19 Ambassadors

On November 27, 2021 Kawerau recorded its first Covid-19 patient. Reported in Toi Te Ora ‘Kawerau District Council confirms that a Kawerau resident has tested positive for COVID-19. This is the first case in the current outbreak from Kawerau. The individual concerned was already known to be a close contact of a previously confirmed case, and has been in isolation for the past week’

PTC’s laptop initiative in the region was well-received by Kawerau school, with posters created to raise awareness across whanau, tamariki and community.

Four winners were awarded laptops, each selected by their Principal. Some of the winners are featured below.

“I was happy that all my hard work on the poster paid off”

When I got notified that I had won a Chromebook I was in the park playing around and then a kid on office duty came to me to say I had to go to the office. Once I arrived at the office, there were other kids there: Kymera, Gianni, me and Chasity. Whaea Rachel printed mine out larger and gave me a pen to outline my drawings and writing thicker and bolder. I went to class and started on it. I finished it that day.

In 2022 I finally got my Chromebook and got to take it home. Before that I got a few pictures taken of me and my Chromebook as well as my finished poster. We drove home and I did a little test on my chromebook, (it worked!).

I was happy that all my hard work on the poster paid off to get me a Chromebook!

“ I am so proud and grateful that I won and all my hard work paid off after all”

Last year we had a COVID-19 poster competition. 4 people were going to get selected. I got told that I had to go to the office. I thought I was in trouble, but when I went, I got told that I had won a chromebook. I saw some other people that also won: Gianni, Chastity and Arya. Whaea Rachel gave us some pens and pencils to make our writing bolder. She offered us to go back to class and fix it up so that's what we did, she told us to come back to class at lunch time.

And now I finally got my chromebook this year. I set it up and it was already fully charged. And now I can finally use it. I got a picture with my poster and chromebook. I also got to take my chromebook home, when my mum arrived she congratulated me. Ishowed my brothers and they were so surprised.I am so proud and grateful that I won and all my hard work paid off after all!
