Drones Flight-Feilding

Feilding youth were buzzing with expectancy as they were primed and ready to engage with coding and drones and to apply their mathematical concepts to flight path and navigation. It was a brilliant day filled with loads of enthusiasm and excitement. Learning to fly the drones in the shape of a regular polygon is quite different from flying in the shape of an irregular polygon.

Our Noel Leeming consultant Mitchell was on hand to steer and direct, but the students basically led the workshop fuelled by energy and enthusiam. Reducing plastic is a major environmental challenge that begins with educating our tamariki and rangatahi.

The students spot-checked classroom bins, skip bins and the grounds for plastics. Reducing, recycling and reusing were some of the key take-home messages they would be sharing with the wider school community in the next few weeks. Things like saying “no to plastic straws”; carrying a re-usable bottle; using brown bags for morning and afternoon tea rather than plastic bags are just a few ways we can empower students to work together to reduce plastic usage.
