Hamilton girls also had an opportunity to learn about climate change and its environmental effects at Waikato University. The PTC workshop facilitated a lot of discussion about the use of more natural-based alternatives rather than chemical synthetics in everyday household products. Many of the latter are toxic, corrosive, or can have deleterious effects through long-term use.

Chemical scientists are indeed world leaders confronting very pivotal challenges and concerns of our future. Through the PTC’s collaboration, the girls gained the opportunity to understand the chemistry behind creating a non-toxic cleaning product as they applied scientific knowledge and analytical skills to create novel possibilities.
