Chemistry Awareness @Waikato Uni
Rangatahi from Morrinsville and Rotorua spent an enjoyable day at the PTC Trust workshop. In collaboration with Dr Martina from Waikato University, our workshop is designed to raise awareness and increase the knowledge and competence of our youth to the growing climate change challenges NZ is facing.
The Government has set clear targets for reducing emissions in NZ
According to the Ministry of Primary Industries
net zero emissions of all greenhouse gases other than biogenic methane by 2050
a 24% to 47% reduction below 2017 levels of biogenic methane emissions by 2050, including a 10% reduction by 2030.
New Zealand's economy relies on maintaining a pristine and stable environment, as this supports a range of primary production, such as fishing, farming, and forestry. Evidence continues to show that greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane and even nitrous oxide are increasing in the atmosphere. The result is increased air and ocean temperatures. Over time, however, these higher temperatures are changing weather patterns and creating unprecedented impacts on the environment.
