According to 2023 article by Rebecca O’Rourke ‘ In 2019, solar energy accounted for 2.3% of the country's total electricity generation. This was a significant increase from just 0.1% in 2010. The US has also been a leader in solar panel installation, with over 2 million solar panel installations as of 2021. This growth has been driven by a combination of factors, including government incentives, technological advancements, and increased awareness of the environmental benefits of solar energy’.
Rangatahi at our PTC renewable energy workshop learnt how solar power has become more cost-effective than ever, with countries like the US and NZ creating conditions to foster its enablement, growth and expansion.
Students described how they enjoyed seeing what the sun can do when they put together solar panels and wired switches.
They enjoyed the day and made a car that works with solar energy to move!
They said that it was a really fun experience watching all the sun power and natural resources power the cars. It was a good explanation and they helped a lot.
Ensuring our rangatahi gain hands-on skills in this growing field is the aim of our kaupapa.
